Safety

Any safety concerns should be reported immediately to your supervisor. Most accidents in the workplace are preventable, and everybody shares responsibility for vigilance of unsafe work conditions and their own individual work practices. In the unfortunate event of an accident, you are required to report the incident to your supervisor.

Working in the sports and entertainment fields can expose you to many hazards if the proper techniques and steps are not followed. The safety of every worker, artist and guest depends heavily upon the proper combination of caution, technique and common sense. The following are some guidelines that will allow us to maintain the high standard of safety we expect.

Electrical Safety

  • Always meter supply before connection.
  • Always isolate the supply before connection.
  • Never replace a fuse with one of greater ampere rating.
  • Never disconnect grounds until all other cables are disconnected first.
  • Always lay excess cable in a figure eight, never in a coil.
  • Always report unattended live cable that is not capped.

Rigging Safety

  • Never stand under a moving load.
  • Always wear a harness and be clipped off when working at heights above 6 feet.
  • Never tie a knot when you are unsure of the application, check first.
  • Never stand under riggers working directly overhead.
  • Never use frayed or damaged slings. Such equipment should be reported to your supervisor.
  • Always double check your rigging procedures.
  • Always have tools secured to your harness when working at a height.
  • Never, ever pull on a rope hanging from the ceiling.

Fire Safety

  • Never block fire exits or fire equipment.
  • Always check the status of smoke detectors before using smoke machines.
  • Know the position of your nearest fire fighting equipment, and the nearest fire exit.

Sound Level Safety

  • Prolonged exposure to audio levels as high as 85 dB can cause both temporary and long term hearing problems. Hearing protection should be worn at all times by those individuals who may be required to be exposed to excessive audio levels.

Public Safety

  • Always make sure that all equipment in public areas is secured.
  • All cables crossing pathways have to be covered and clearly marked as a change in the floor level.
  • All crates should have the catches and latches closed to avoid injury.
  • Make sure all floors are free of debris and dry.
